Double Names of Bones . . .?

Hello everyone.

I’ve made a character and by mistake parented the armature to him before I named the bones. Once I renamed them I parented the armature again, and at first when I began skinning, the bones appeared with their correct names in the menu where I selected them. When I opened the menu a second time, however, I found that there where the bones I had not named the first time I parented him to the armature along with the new names. I’m worried it will take up space, so is there a way to get rid of them?


If you haven’t done anything special to your vertex groups, just delete them all before re-parenting.

For any vertex group you have modified, just leave it at the unused name, parent it, delete the new (correctly named) group, and rename the unused one to the correct name.
