Dragon Dog

Sup,
This is my first organic model without following a tut. It’s only a start but I’ll be working on it probab for a long time. Currently just doing the base mesh, then planing on sculpting and mapping.

Attached, Reference by Feng Zhu and Clay render.
Just noticed the head is a bit big :o

Sup,

Here is an update, it’s lookin a bit better :eyebrowlift:. C+C very welcome.

I still need to pose and realised that by using a mirror modifier I have messed up the workflow. I wanted to weight paint the vertices on a low multi-res level but you can’t apply the mirror with multi-res enabled… hmmm not sure what to do about this. I tried painting at the full multi-res level (4) but it didn’t turn out so good… :spin:

Enjoy

sup,

This is the dragon poseed with a basic ground. Basically I had to lose to levels of detail to be able to finish the posing. NB I now have learnt the correct workflow for sculpting and multires.

  1. model with mirror on
  2. apply mirror modifier
  3. then use multires

Anyway here’s the pic, the shoudlers need some work, will then add two more levels of detail.

Looking pretty good… I like it! The wings look kind of like cardboard right now though, I’d try to add a lot more shape to them.

Planning on adding any texturing?

my only crit is the head, its too small and looks un-natural (for a dragon), i think u should scale it up a bit.
other than that it looks great

It’s supposed to be small, look at the concept art. Anyway, first give us scientific evidence of what a dragon should look like, then you can say his head is the wrong size. :stuck_out_tongue:

I kinda like the small, predatory head, it’s kinda stegosaurus-like.

Wheres Cd??

you know trak-wrecka i was thinking the same thing. its not like him to miss out on anything dragony.
i would suggest adding some more loops across the wings and shaping it abit more curved. Scale the head up abit, still keep it small but not that small.

sup all,

finally some replies  Allways helps when you’re getting bogged down with a project.

paroneayea: Ja, you’re right, will work on it for the next update. I ain’t that good at texturing but I am planning on it. Do people here ever do colab projects when one person models and somebody else textures?

MouthForWar_42: I think BlackBoe’s comment covered it, I’ll size it up a little…

BlackBoe: Shot

Will update soon…

The local green, blue, and yellow Dragon (don’t ask) is here now, don’t worry.

Most Dragons I’ve seen don’t have heads that small, you say it’s a Dragon dog, while you can’t prove Dragon anatomy you can prove a dog’s anatomy, I think the dog part would largely prohibit a head that small. I think heads of Dragons/Dragon hybrids, should be a bit bigger.

Dragon/dragon hybrids? Sounds like just a dragon to me

Whatever Cyborg-Dragon says, just know that he sounds so self-assured because he is under the impression he’s a dragon. Make from this what you will, but it essentially means that he will tell anyone whose picture differs from his vision of ‘draconity’ how wrong they are, with the full confidence of a grade-a, bone fide professor. Whether or not he is qualified to know this is up to anyone.

BlackBoe: from what I have seen the true Dragon forms of certain ones who are otherkin vary greatly, I’ve met one who’s true form is furry and one or two that have hairy manes, others have striped color schemes. An ultra rigid view of Dragons will simply not work here. The main thing I have with the small head is the same if it’s on a cat or humanoid. Small heads are just not my thing unless the species requires a small head.

Would you mind displaying some photos of those true dragon forms? We of the scientific community would appreciate it

They’re similar to what you see in books and Dragon pictures with some having noticable differences.
My true form is a green, blue, and yellow Dragon as stated in my sig. But this is not the right topic for farther discussion.

Normally, dragons cannot be photographed . . . but my new digital camera happens to have a Draconity lens filter. Seeing as my true form is a pterodactyl, I flew over to Wichita to snap a quick pic of Cyborg Dragon:

Perhaps this reference will help a.vector with his model. If nothing else, I serves to prove that Cyborg Dragon has been telling the truth . . . except that I saw no evidence of cybernetic implants on his reptilian body (he was wearing pants, though . . . so who knows?).

BTW: The model’s looking great a.vector, can’t wait to see it textured.

.

Kinda curious, just how did cydrag figure out he was a dragon? I’d like to know, cuz I think I’m a beaver.

This is not the topic for such discussion. Any otherkin related discussion in this topic is off the topic here.

In all seriousness, would you please explain all this stuff in an offtopic thread? “dragoness” seems to be very important to you, and I think more people would take you seriously if you would explain yourself.

Ok, that just made my day. PANTS! Of course! You can’t be a rebelious teenager of ANY species without a good sense of pants!

Or . . . something . . .

Can I get one of those cameras? There’s some people I need to scare or disturb . . . .

About the model itself; I don’t think the size of the head that’s actually the problem, I think it’s the “my neck looks like the top of an overstuffed garbage bag” sort of stretching effect going on there. A bigger head would probably look more balanced; my mind’s telling me that for a creature with humanoidish hands the palm-to-fingertip of the hand should be in the same ballpark as the chin-to-hairline part of the face . . . or possibly the jaw length on a snout-type face . . . .

But you could probably get away with a smaller head with a slightly longer and smoother neck, too. Or you could go with what you’ve got for a little comic effect.

ETA: Nave and anyone else who is curious as a result of this thread: As far as non-CD-specific otherkin stuff goes, I haven’t given it a glance in ages, but I believe http://www.otherkin.net still serves as a reasonable jumping off point.
