Dragon WIP

Well I Have not really been on Blender artists due to being on another Blender fan site, well any way here is a WIP I greatly like and as it is one of my best models so far, I plan to take a while on it.

Here is stage 1:

Good start! Glad to see you here. Not much to crit since it is early in the process. The only thing that doesn’t look quite right is the head. It looks too pointy near the eyes. Good luck with it!

Yeah now that you mention dudebot13, and as another “bot” I must have to comment on this too - the head appears too squarish. But it should be easy to fix. Nice aggressive lines on the rest of the body.

Currently this would make a good start for an Elasmosaur. I’m not sure if you should turn this even into a dragon since it has such a nice water-flow body right now

That thing is totally a dinosaur, although dinosaur or dragon I can’t help but feel the tail is a bit too short.

Good start though

For a raptor type dinosaur the tail would be fine.

It doesn’t look too much like a Dragon now, maybe add horns and ear fans?

It looks great so far. It looks more dinosaur than dragon. I think you should try to do both from what its currently at.

Thanks for the advice I’ve been working on it here’s stage 2 he has legs now

Coming along well, the one thing that sticks out the most to me is the space between the legs/arms and the body. If you check out a google image search for ‘velociraptor’ you can see that the limbs come out of the body more smoothly. Also, the body seems too flat for an upright dinosaur like that. I hope I don’t come along too harsh, you’re making excellent progress and I look forward to seeing this finished and textured

I agree, perhaps it should be a little more upright. Also I think the top of the head needs to be a bit flatter. Looks good so far though. I like the neck.

hmm we have similar probelm we need to subsurf it less and smooth it more and then continue this pattern as we remodel/ redifine the shape hmm check mine out similar?

Alrighty here’s stage 3 added horns and claws

There’s only one thing that I see:

The neck is a little square. To give the selling effect to the model, you should also make it look like there are bones along the back of the neck. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, feel the back of your neck for the vertibrae (sp???). Other than the neck details, it’s an overall great model! Keep it up.

Looks a little more like a Dragon now, but doesn’t scream ‘Dragon’ to me yet.

The limbs looked tacked on, make the joints between them defined, but seamless, they need to blend into the body while keeping the definition provided by bone and muscle.

CD is the expert on Dragons - his opinion is worth 10 blenderheads opinion including mine!

good start
maybe you should change the head a bit, that looked too flat

Still a raptor  ( and yeah kbot, CDs “expertise” really is not worth more than what comes out of my ass on a toilet  … besides being a post-wore )

What goes for the feet, what’s that? One digit feet don’t exist… it looks strange. Do you intend to make a hoof? Needs some joint matching for sure. By the way, I’m not so sure about this one since it could be the perspective but are the legs not a bit on the narrow side ( along the X axis if the main body line is along the Y axis )?

Not to get on CD for anything at all, hes a good kid and does more for this community than the average user (posting news links and such), but I’d sooner take his texturing advice than his modelling advice…even if it is about modeling a dragon. Have you seen his dragon? Check his avatar. Decent textures there especially the saliva…but again, I wouldn’t seek his advice on modeling one. He’s the “blender features” man, and he’s good at that job, but he hasn’t done much that would warrent my suggesting him for modeling advice. He’s the guy you go to when you want to spend hours rendering something that is made up of a cube, a couple planes, and a couple procedural textures.

And I thought I was being too impolite/bllunt.

That’s why I carry on other places the title “Linux dragon of quick wit and sharp tongue” :eyebrowlift:
