Dragonfly material

Hello everyone

I’m trying to model a dragonfly, and I now want to get a basic material completed. The UV texturing is in progress, what I need help on is trying to get the reflective material created (Ignore the composition and the lack of color in the body, I’m simply trying to create an insect material) Also, if anybody has the slightest clue in creating a very realistic eye material let me know as well :). These are my reference images: http://i700.photobucket.com/albums/ww7/jessesau/DragonflyHead.jpg~original http://i700.photobucket.com/albums/ww7/jessesau/DragonflyTop.jpg~original http://i700.photobucket.com/albums/ww7/jessesau/DragonflySide.jpg~original

These are my images SSS: http://s700.photobucket.com/user/jessesau/media/DragonflySSS.png.html
Glossy/Diffuse: http://i700.photobucket.com/albums/ww7/jessesau/DragonflyGlossy.png~original

I can’t figure out how to delete attached photos, I meant to attach my own models, not the references. Therefore, I’ve run out of space to attach the photos directly…

Perhaps there’s a way I can keep the highlights of the light on the glossy one but remove the fact that the color turns completely grey when I add any gloss.

Which renderer are you using? BI or Cycles?

If cycles - it might help if you post your node setups.

Sorry about that, I’m just at university and will do it later. It’s in Cycles and is a really easy setup. A mix node between glossy and diffuse with a 0.8 factor in favor of diffuse. I had a glossy hardness of about 0.01. I left SSS at default because I have no idea where to start. I see all these difficult materials created, are there any good tutorials that describe the need for all these nodes? I’m positive the eye will require a very extensive texture but don’t even know where to start.

These are my materials. Incredibly simple, don’t know where to start.
