dUMB QUESTION ON RTOPOLOGY

I’m learning how to retopologize, but I can’t figure out how to turn off the dense mesh in my object before I start. I just made this sample object. How do I convert it to a smooth, light gray object in EDIT mode ready for retopologizing?


You don’t. You make a second object and snap it to the surface of the high poly object.

But in all the tutorials I see them retopologizing over a smooth light gray object without the dense mesh showing.

the dense mesh (the high poly) and the retopo mesh must be 2 different objects, i mean in Object mode they are not joined as a single object.
So go into object mode, add a plane, select that plane then go to Edit Mode, you’ll see the other object too but without the wire .

Then continue to follow the tutorials from there.
