hi,
how can i make blender duplicate an object on every frame of the timeline? or every x frames? the dup
let’s say a cube is translated over a certain distance and scales for a certain amount over a period of 10 frames, then there should be 10 copies of the cube mesh each representing a snapshot of the cube’s state (position and scale in this example) at every frame. the duplicates should however not be animted anymore but remain static at their frame’s position. with more complex scenes than the simple cube this must lead to very interesting results.
I don’t necessarily need actual copies of the mesh if the same visual result can be acquired differently.
@motimo: thank you, this is what I was looking for. In my research on the topic I had come across “Dupliframes” but the manual was confusing for me and thought it has different purpose.
@sporkflips: yup that’s what I meant. If you do a very simple animation and, as motimo pointed out, select the object, go to Object-Panel --> Duplication --> Frames you see ecaxtely what I meant
I agree, and don’t forget that you can keyframe the number of iterations in the array over time, so you keyframe 1 at the start, then on frame 10 say you keyframe 2 interactions, and so on ad infinitum. To key frame any numeric box, just RMB click it and select “Insert Keyframe”. This is very useful when key framing say X rotations of a bone, rather than try to work out which axis it is in the 3D window, just keyframe the transforms boxes. I do this a lot on all sorts of numeric boxes - it’s a real time saver and stops you key framing everything like LocRotScale in the 3D view. As your animations gets more complex, you will see the need to keep key framing down to just the essentials.
Norvman - you seem to have moved while I have been away tramping the Himalayas… I like the Sherlock quote BTW.
