I’ve got a metal plate object and it looks better with some noise on its surface.
However, the edges don’t look good.
Is there a way during render to allow the noise on the surface, but somehow have less noise on the edges?

That kind of uneven edge is usually caused by low samples. There aren’t enough samples to resolve the anti-aliasing.
The usual solution would be to render in higher quality, get a clean render, and then add fake film grain in compositing. Adding grain after the render also has the advantage that you get a more controlled and even noise. This is what they do in movies when adding a CGI object to real footage, that way they can match the render to the existing film grain.
thats perfect
I used Multiply , I’ll try others but it seems OK to me so far. I had a glare node already in there, I assume its properly placed in the chain.
This should work.
I would just like to add one thing. If you try faking camera grain in an animation, you should just know that the pattern would be different for every frame in real life.
thanks for the animation tip
