Dutch VOC City 17 century

Hello guys,

I am proud to present my project ‘ Enckhuysen 1640’ It is not a finished project, just still in progress a lot of things to do with lighting and render effects. I started 1 year ago on this massive project and I think it is endless . For the people who wants to know more background information, here you go.

This project is about enckhuysen, a small town in Holland. I think nobody knows it, the real name of the city is enckhuizen, but 400 years ago they called it enckhuysen. A long time ago this city was one of the biggest in Holland, it was huge because the Dutch VOC was sailing all over the world to trade with other cities. In 50 years, Dutch towns grows up to very rich towns. We all know Amsterdam, this was also a Dutch VOC city. The reason I chose enckhuysen, was the story behind it. After a great time, the people get pored, very pored. There was a pandemic and a lot of people died. It was like a ghost town. In the year 1650, 29 thousand people lived there. 120 years later, there were just 3000 people left. The nation was in war with England, and this town was lost and very pore. There were lots of buildings in the town with no people in it, like a ghost town. In the 19 century they demolished thousands of buildings just for the money, there are now just 100 left.
There are less pictures of this city in the 17 century; there are no more paintings of this city in this age, just a couple of sketches. There was also a big map with all the houses in the 17e century, and that give me a lot of inspiration to bring this city back to life.
It is a major project, but it is very cool to do it. Everything is made in blender, so I love this program. It is a ‘non’ commercial project, I just work on it because a have the time for it. You guys are the first one, so I really hope you guys like it. Remember when you watch the renders, what you see is all gone in real. There are now cheap ass buildings, ugly and very small.

One more thing, because there are so many houses and so many old buildings, I chose for low poly buildings, my computer is not that powerful, so I can’t make the project in a high resolution. I have seen a lot of cool renders here on blender artists. It is impossible for me to make 1000 building in that quality  but if you know some cool things for in this project that will help to make it more realistic, you are very welcome!

Greets

Hi insiderrr,

I do like the screenshots very much, and i wish you good luck with the progress of this project. I like it that you try to bring history alive again.
One question though, are you planning to make an animation from this in the future?

Looks great indeed.

Occasionally I’ve had similar plans for a model of Stockholm old town. All the work (and my old computer) keep me from even getting started.

Good luck with your project and please keep us updated.

/ Mats

Great to see something like this

 Just like my old history books. Good job!

looks great , really great .

Great work overall, your colour texturing work is really nice but you don’t seem to be using any sort of bump maps, I think they would further lift the renders. Its good to see someone following through with such an ambitious project. Well done!

These look pretty good (aside from the lack of bump maps).

thanx for the information

Here is a new update, hope you guys like it. I worked a lot to improve the graphics and put more detail into it. It´s a really big project, so it´s a lot of work.

I put three new images in this tread, also some inspiration images, can you guys give me some advice to get the same look as the art work i´m using. The problem is that these paintings are verry diferent, and i don´t know what to do to give these renders the same feeling. Compositing is also verry hard, don´t know how to do it, sombody got a good tutorial for me?

greets.

This is my new work:

grtz

Wow! I’m really impressed! I wanted to say the water was a little weird in the first pictures, but when I saw the new upload… WOW!!! I really like your work, the water for special, how have you made it? Is it just a mesh or have you been using some kind of modifier? I’m looking forward to a tutorial. Nice work, man!

P.S. Op je Engels is nog wel wat aan te merken :stuck_out_tongue:

vijf sterren!

thats an enormous amount of very finely finished work… if as you say, its low poly, perhaps that could be turned into a game world for exploration? is that the plan? this is fantastic work

could you provide overall wireframes to see the extent of the space?

thanx for the comments! here some wire screens:

nice nice nice
its looking good… you turned on bloom btw? it looks like it is… if so… turn it down xD
also… maybe it helps… atleast try it, add some more brown to your lights ^^ tends to kick up the realism a bit(they do it in next gens game’s ^^)
btw: ga zo door  echt vet man… en het project durian team in nederland is ook helemaal te gek
