Dynamic paint jitter even after changing substeps

I am using liquid simulation and dynamic paint to show a splash effect. I have the liquid sim throwing liquid onto a canvas and have setup up the dynamic paint canvas on my canvas object and dynamic brush on the liquid sim. It seems to work fine but there is a visible sub stepping issue. It’s not smooth.

I have tried increasing the sub stepping but for whatever reason it seems to give the same result for the highest (20) and no substeps options. Please take a look in my file and let me know what I’m doing wrong.
