Dynamic Paint Laser Etch

Based on miikaH’s wonderful Dynamic Paint demo where a laser carves the Blender logo into sand.

I played around with it, and after searching a number of tuts, made some modifications and came up with this.

The whole thing is off, scene-wise. The lighting, textures, etc. There is smoke, but for the life of me I cannot get it to work right. The glow came out wrong. The lines in the image are meant to represent burn lines and I guess if I wanted to play with the nurbsPath to get make the laser “dance” and play with the timing of the emitter, it might look better. But that is more work than I want to indulge myself in! But I will probably do that. Does anyone know of a cheap and easy way to lay out a path? I know how to use a path and lay it out, but it just gets tedious after a while :stuck_out_tongue:

So, any hints? Suggestions? Encouragements? Discouragements?

All critiques welcome!

Very cool! This is internal render?

Thank you. Yes, I used the internal. The last I knew Cycles couldn’t handle compositing, or something in those lines.
