Dynamic weight painting to animate cloth pin?

Hey folks, I’ve been trying to animate a cloth that slowly gets blown away. I’m using a plane set as cloth and as a dynamic paint canvas with another plane as a brush passing through it. Everything works as it should but I can’t seem to get the cloth to use the vertex data generated by the dynamic painting in the dp_weight group as the cloth pin. It just acts as if theres no pin at all, even when it’s showing 100% weight painted red. Any ideas why this won’t work? It seems to make sense to me in my head.

I could be wrong, but I don’t believe the cloth modifier supports animated vertex maps. I think “goal” just uses the first frame.
