E-Cycles - The fastest render engine for Blender. 3.2 release available now!

the AO and Clay presets are awesome, thanks for this @bliblubli .

Is there anyway you could apply your wizard’s skills to the adaptive subdivision displacement ?
Octane’s implementation of displacement is so fast and memory efficient that I cry every time I use blender’s buggy implementation ;-(

Cheers

Can’t wait to try it out.
I ordered NVlink and it arrived, but it was 4-slot and it looks like I need 3-slot.
But there are no more 3-slot ones in my country for sale.
Does anybody know are there any good deals in Europe for NVlink?

Hy there has everybody got the “bake” tab under renderoptions? mine is gone (v2.83.12 e-cycles)

Edit: found out that (optix version) does not support baking. switch to cuda = solved!

Just a quick update on my issue.
Not only with the latest 2.90 build the issue is gone (I’m using E_cycles_2.90_v20200424_win), but the renders now are also cleaner.
I’m not using any particular new setting, nonetheless, I can definitely see less noise with just about the same amount of render time as with the older releases (in fact, I may as well say that the new build is indeed faster).
Kudos to @bliblubli

I’m working on a complete new displacement system

3-slot NVLink at 65€ Check the PCI-Express layout your motherboard requires for SLI (usually the top 2 for at least 2x 8x link speed) before installing, you will spare some time  .

You’re welcome  A lot of time was invested in polishing the new 2.90 builds and they are now pretty solid already! New builds coming soon with experimental support for older Linux distros @dogdayfear !

Johannes Wilde and Mathieu Barbier did nice nature and water simulation renders with E-Cycles, the Grove and Scatter. Another great advantage of E-Cycles, it’s 100% compatibility out-of-the-box with existing add-ons and libraries so that you can concentrate on your art:

Thank you so much Mathieu, this is great price!

Btw. I was researching stuff regarding nvlink and what I found out is that my motherboard (Aorus Elite x570) doesn’t officially support sli. Why you may ask? Because gigabyte doesn’t want to pay nvidia licence for using sli. It is really funny. 15 years when I had entry motherboards and no chance of buying 2 gpus I always had SLI feature. Years later when I have more expensive mobo and when I need it for work, they decided to cut the cords. Just my luck. I am probably more mad at nvidia than gigabyte.

I hope version 2.82a will work on Debian 9.

And by the way. It seems like Debian 9 is treated like an old dinosaur from pleistocene.

Just want to point that current Debian version is 10. I use Debian 9. And its rock solid stable.

The new 2.90 builds are up and should work on Debian 9  If it works, I’ll have a look for an updated 2.82a build.

Edit: By the way, if I could I would change my OS every 20 years. For me it’s just a thing to boot the PC and the regular updates should be user land and drivers only. I agree Debian 9 is actually very young, but Linux was designed in a way which makes things very hard.

It’s a good side of Windows. All drivers and most softwares are still supporting Windows 7, which is roughly Vista with some bug fixes = an OS from 2006. Apart from the driver model, I guess it’s even 95% like Windows server 2003 if not more.
Anyway, like you I like to keep an old and stable OS, it’s just Linux and glibc development make distros to quickly alter. Even Linus would like to change that.

New builds of E-Cycles 2.90 are up. Those include all the latest improvements of upstream plus:

  • even faster viewport rendering with the AO and Clay kernel/presets.
  • support of Debian 9 for Linux.
  • first NVlink tests show up to 3x faster rendering compared to using system memory!

There is a good active community for E-Cycles on Instagram too now, some of them also compare with Redshift, I recommend to have a look!

Cant see download links for 2.90 builds in Gumroad. They have disappeared. They were there but now they are not.

excellent! and thank you for maintaining the Mac build as well. Great stuff

Gumroad problem solved now!

I had the same issue. As a workaround you can manually delete material override on the Layer panel > Override.

@norka and @blndrusr I’m still doing the doc. With AO, you can simply switch to AO feature set, switch back to whatever your kernel was and it should work.
@norka Clay is a different beast and indeed uses material override. It should only be used with presets. You can indeed do as @blndrusr said or you can save your current settings by adding a preset (the plus at the bottom of the presets list), switch to clay, then back to your saved preset. You can also simply hit ctrl-Z which is the fastest and simplest way. Undo should be better in Blender 2.90, it’s a good way to test it

Generally guy please do bug reports per mail. Following issues when everybody speaks about a different subject is very hard. It also gives the impression E-Cycles is super buggy instead of showing I’m implementing what you asked for @norka, which is great and it’s fast? I also check my mails very often and answer most of the time very quickly. You can also then attach files which have private data, give more informations, etc. So everybody wins. If you are somehow very unhappy about my support per mail, you can still come here and let the world know

Hi, does anybody still use GTX 700 series for E-Cycles?
My old GTX 760 does not work with latest two builds, latest was v20200421.
I am in contact with @bliblubli to sort this out but more testers are always welcome.

Thanks, mib
