Edge finding script for background images

Hello, all. I have a question on whether or not a Python script exists and if it does, where can I get it and if it doesn’t, how can I make it?

Here is an example of what I want to do: I will need to take a picture for the background image, say a black field with a white circle in the middle. The black and white are solid “pure” colors. Ok, now I need to make a mesh to match the circle. Say I want the mesh to be exactly 50 vertices tall and exactly 50 vertices wide. I will then need to get the vertices to match up with the circle.

I was thinking of a script that can find the edges of a color in the background image, the circle in this case, and then take a vertices and have them match the edge in a perfect grid style.

I can clarify through chat if needed. My IM is velvet_leopard01 on yahooIM.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can use Inkscape for vectorizing your image and convert it to SVG format. Then import it into Blender.

Remember that you don’t have to do the work manually. Inkscape has Potrace integrated in it. See http://potrace.sourceforge.net/ for more information about Potrace.
