Editing a mesh to fit an image?

I’m sure there’s a simple way to do this, and would appreciate advice… Imagine a square 2-D plane with an image of say a leaf mapped onto it. What’s the easiest way to edit the mesh so that it adopts the shape of the leaf?

Thanks in advance

Clive

Hey, well I’d load the leaf as a background image in the modelling view, then just move the verts around with Xray on (zkey).

View->BackgroundImage (only visible in orthographic views, and camera view)

This way works pretty well:

Thanks for the advice: it was the x-ray mode I needed and couldn’t find! In my laziness and innocence I’d thought I might just be able to draw round the outline and have a mesh edited to that shape, but hey these methods will do the trick. Thanks again.
