Editing an appended node group

I must have set something unwittingly but I cannot edit node groups which wasn’t the case yesterday! Tabbing opens the appended group and I can move and resize each node but cannot change any element of the node nor what it links to.

Any ideas anyone please.

Are you sure you didn’t link it rather than append it
If you linked it try making it local with the icon on the node

No definitely appended. The problem just got worse because all nodes in all materials are now behaving the same. Additionally, I can not edit any material in the properties panel either. I have just cleared cache and powered down and restarting in case there is a Blender glitch somewhere.

Oops - senior moment time. I am convinced I appended not linked but I re-checked and indeed it was linked. So thanks for the pointer. More embarrassingly, by co-incidence the one or two materials I checked using the properties panel were also linked - but I should have realized that one.
