I am using a decent Mac book pro with 64gb memory and 32 cores. Previous versions of Blender worked well. Eevee in 4.2 is now slower than cycles, if I attempt to render in Eevee, it slows down my whole computer, this has never happened before with any software. Eevee as it is now is unusable for me. Can’t find anything anywhere that would tell me why this is happening, tried lots of settings, some of them very low, no difference. Does anyone have the same experience, does anyone know what to do to get this going? Cycles is running without any issues. Thanks for any advise.
With ray-tracing enabled, the new Eevee engine takes a lot more performance power, so it’s already a bit slower. But it sounds like for you it’s slower than Cycles which is definitely unusual. The two top things that come to mind for me:
Check “system” in your Blender settings and make sure you have GPU Metal enabled.
If that doesn’t fix it, or it’s already enabled, try installing a fresh copy of blender (you don’t need to remove your current installation; you can have more than one install of the same version). If the issue persists in Default Settings Blender then I’d guess it’s a bug and sounds like something to bring to Blender Support.
