Whenever I open the material view (not just in eevee) my entire computer freezes AND when I go to the rendered view (only in eevee) it also freezes, along with the screen flickering to black for a few seconds, every time this happens (aside from a few rare cases where the computer will come back to life after a few seconds) I have to restart the computer. I have tried installing every update since 2.8 but they all have the same problem. Here are the specs:
iMac : 21.5-inch, Late 2009
Processor : 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory : 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
Startup Disk : iMac HD
Graphics : NVIDIA GeForce 9400 256 MB (From 2008)
I would love some help with this problem as its lead to many lost hours of work!
Hey,
It looks like the specs of your computer don’t quite meet the minimum requirments for EEVEE rendering/use as it uses real time GPU power and your GPU is not up to the minimum (GPU)VRAM
- 64-bit dual core 2Ghz CPU with SSE2 support
- 4 GB RAM
- 1280×768 display
- Mouse, trackpad or pen+tablet
- Graphics card with 1 GB RAM, OpenGL 3.3
Your GPU doesn’t meet requirements
Hardware Requirements
Minimum
- 64-bit dual core 2Ghz CPU with SSE2 support
- 4 GB RAM
- 1280×768 display
- Mouse, trackpad or pen+tablet
- Graphics card with 1 GB RAM, OpenGL 3.3
- Less than 10 year old
Supported Graphics Cards
- NVIDIA : GeForce 400 and newer, Quadro Tesla GPU architecture and newer, including RTX-based cards, with NVIDIA drivers (list of all GeForce and Quadro GPUs)
- AMD : GCN 1st gen and newer (list of all AMD GPUs)
- Intel : Haswell and newer (list of all Intel GPUs)
- macOS : version 10.12 or newer with supported hardware
Thanks for the detail, that’s really useful!
I know its not good news but I have to add that its crazy you still have a working 2009 imac. I have the 27" from 2009 and maxed out the CPU and RAM before switching…I almost want to fire it up to see if it can .blend.
Anyways if you want advice on building or upgrading to a new computer don’t hesitate to ask.
Regards,
Peter
