EEVEE Development updates ( EEVEE-Next )

If EEVEE NEXT aims to replicate the direction of CYCLE, I think it should support more shader nodes.
But it’s not visible in the development plans.
It’s curious why Anisotropy, which has been possible in Maya viewports since a long, long time ago, isn’t supported yet. :smiling_face_with_tear:

You mean hair shader right? Yes this is very annoying. I know there’s a workaround for hair shader in eevee but it’s very noisy and don’t look good in general. I was hoping they support it with EEVEE Next but fortunately it’s not even in the todo list

I think the Huang hair model implementation task mentioned plans for eevee support, but a pull request for that has not yet been created.

That’s a good news, I hope it doesn’t take too long to implement

That is what I had in UPBGE as well, except it said “No shader buffers supported” along with the selection being nothing but an orange outline. Was using the macOS version on Apple M1 hardware.

I expect it to be solved in the new upcoming Metal release for that platform.

I found this video about fake anisotropic effect for EEVEE it might be useful.

Anyone know what’s going on with 4.3? I already thought Next viewport was noisy and I just opened a file in the upcoming version and it looks like this:

Compared to Next in 4.2…

(Disclaimer before someone jumps to their “defence”: Yes, yes, I realize it’s “beta” but I was asking if anyone knew specifically what’s going on. Next added a disturbing amount of noise which makes it difficult to work in raytraced mode, and you have to manually toggle that off even in shaded view, so I’m just wondering if additional noise is a trend that’s expected to get worse.)

I have no idea what it could be. Personally, I would submit a bug report.

Apparently shader node groups now support boolean and integer sockets. When did this happen? Didn’t see anything in the release notes.

Is this a sign that (now that the new EEVEE is released) shader nodes might start getting some of the stuff that geometry nodes have had for a long time? Having a menu switch node (or even a basic switch node) in shader node groups would be great.

It would be nice to have an index switch node too!

I want boolean math node for shaders so badly
