Eevee Next shadows jagged in 4.2

Hey,

I have a problem with jagged shadows in 4.2. Played with settings all the way but cannot find any solution. Camera is orthographic and very far away. Btw when I zoom in jagged lines disappears but I need to render objects from far away…

Anyone knows maybe where should I dig or play with which settings? It looks like something I should just experiment with but no luck for now…

EVEE or EVEE-Next? Have you tried increasing the shadow resolution?

※ It seems that the EVEE-Next notation has been changed to EVEE (Legacy) → EVEE since yesterday. There may be some confusion.

Does it only happen in viewport or does it affect rendering?
It also looks similar to the problem you see in Viewport.
Increase the clip start level of the camera.

Eevee Next

this is render:

this is camera viewport:

this is camera viewport on a bigger viewport zoom (light suddenly changed):

this is camera viewport on a extra viewport zoom (light is now allright!)

and this is extra zoom on normal viewport zoom:

I’m using this Eevee but downloading new build. This one is couple days old…

First try updaing your GPU driver. I had artifacts like you have in your first image and they were gone after updating.

For the jagged lines you posted. I think its directly relating to sun. In that mode for me shadow quality is currently very scene size dependent. Does it get better hide all distant objects?

The newly uploaded image may be a graphics driver issue, similar to other people’s comments.

Also blender4.2 is an unstable version. It may be a problem with that build.

I have newest Nvidia drivers, will check for updates (4080). I’ve managed to solve the issue by workaround. I’m rendering object x2 scaled up but with 50% resolution, so got same thing in terms of size but shadow got more details so can’t see any jagged lines. Thanks for help!

Shadows behave really weird but Eevee Next is too awesome to go back so will keep trying to adjust…

My first suggestion is that you try to step backwards to the most recent situation where this problem didn’t appear. (After downloading a stable build …) Does it happen only in "EEVEE Next?" Did it work in 4.1?

Once you are back to a known-previous state where the problem didn’t appear, you can then begin to work forward to find out what is causing it to occur now.

Also remember that “viewport” renders might use a different engine.

In Eevee Legacy, object/scene size has always had a related factor to the shadow quality from a sun light.

Given the we know that sun light shadows in Eevee Next have been a bit troublesome to code, plus you’re using an Ortho camera - I’m not surprised you might have an issue there.

Best idea is to report it. Might be something that can be addressed.

Just check camera clipping. I´m shure it´s solve the problem.

Camera clipping doesn’t solve all jagged shadows in Eevee Next. There’s a known problem with the renderer.
