Effects and Animations Questions

Good evening, everyone. It is me again.

I would assume that animations would also apply to “effects” and such, or else I would have posted this elsewhere. However, I have a few questions regarding animations in “object mode,” and in “video editor mode.” As usual, these are questions that I am seeking answers for, because I am trying to develop effect for a trailer.

1: Is it possible to make, say, particle effects with a transparent background, so it can be applied to a video, or does it need to be created in the “video editor mode”?

2: Is is possible to make effects that can be applied to footage without using the “video editor mode” in Blender? If there is, would anyone mind explaining?

Render your scene with a transparent background to a format that supports an alpha channel such as .png
Cycles - enable Transparent in Render / Film settings
Blender render - set Alpha to transparent in the Render / Shading settings

Would you mind explaining EXACTLY what you mean, don’t be vague, supply exact example. For effects you can render them in the scene itself or post process in the video sequencer of the compositor

First, I would like to apologize for being vague. As I have stated before, it has been years since I have used Blender and I have not used it for video editing purposes before.

Second, despite my comment being vague, you answered my question. To be more precise on my 2nd question, what I meant was: “It is possible to apply an effect to a video, without having to use video editing mode?” - I try to prevent myself from using the video editing mode because it lags, and crashes often.

Nevertheless, thank you for the help.
