Empty mesh

Hi,

I’m having a problem in my tutorial because I don’t know what an empty mesh is. I need it to do the lighting part of my tutorial. Can anyone explain what any empty mesh is and what it does?

The tutorial is: Modeling, Shading, Texturing, Lighting, and Compositing a Soda Can in Blender 2.49: Part 1 | Packt Publishing Technical & IT Book Store

Thanks,
Zeal

An Empty is simply a one-dimensional (point) object that doesn’t render. You can use them for aiming lights/camera, placing textures, anything where you need an object without an actual mesh. By default it looks like a set of coordinate axes labled xyz. You make one in 2.53 with Shift-A->Add ->Empty. In 2.49, Spacebar->Add Empty.

Thanks for the response
