will my graphics card (geforce 8800) be utilised automaticly or do i have to enable it? if so, how

It’s automatic. If your card has “Optimization” settings (like for games) like AntiAliasing or Filtering they may or may not mess with the way Blender Displays but the shouldn’t affect how it Renders.
