Erosion Generator

Hi, currently im trying to model a landsape in blender and been using height maps to generate it but im having difficulty trying to achive realistic erosion.

There is a program called geocontrol that can realise this but can afford it, and wanted to know about similar free programs or methods of creating erosion for terrains while using height maps.

I haven’t tried geocontrol, but I’ve had some success with erosion and nice dendritic river patterns for my planet maps using a program called Wilbur. It’s free, but for Windows only. It doesn’t have the smoothest interface, but there are some nice documents on the site telling how to get cool results.

Depending on what you are trying to do with the terrain terragen might be what you are looking for. http://www.planetside.co.uk/terragen/

Wilber looks interesting, but the ability to have good diverse terrain displacement textures is perhaps already in Blender SVN via the new texture node tree.

Hi,
to be honest, wilber is a very old program.
the free terragen 0.9.43 is really good for this type of work.
http://www.planetside.co.uk/terragen/win/downloadwin.shtml
There is an array of plugins, including .dem import for real landscape maps.
that & much more is here:

you can visit my terragen gallery here:

you can import terragen files into Blender.
then as CD said, you can add detail using nodes.
There is also a related program "TerraTweak’ that edits terragen files.

Of course if you have the $$ you can get Terragen 2.
or try the free version.

dam, that sounds like an add!
well it’s not, after going through the motions of most oss & free terrain gen’s,
that’s my opinion.

For the Linuxheads, Terragen works fine under wine too…
