Error: Can't Extrude

Hi,
I am new to Blender so I am trying to builb the castle that is in the tut. But when I create the circle (pentagram) and try to extrude I receive this error. Is the problem with me or the software?

I highlight the circle in edit mode I press the E key, it prompts me to extrude, I click yes and the error message comes up.
Anyone know what might be the issue?
Thanks

Not sure without seeing what the exact message IS.

Here are some things to make sure of:

  • You are definitely in edit mode: you see vertexes as pink or yellow dots at the end of every edge.
  • Your object has edges! Not just the dots, but the edges themselves. (This shouldn’t matter, though.)
  • You do, in fact, have everything selected. The vertices should show up as yellow.
  • Hit JUST the “e” key… no modifiers, etc.
  • When you added the circle, you did so as Add>Mesh>Circle and not a CURVE or SURFACE. It must be a MESH.

Hope this helps,

Yes I created a mesh circle with 5 points as in the tut. I enter the edit mode and enter the side view, the vertexes are all pink, I click the E key and the extrude dialog box opens, when I click extrude the error: Can’t extrude appears.

I wonder if this has anything to do with it; When I installed the program a window such as a dos window that says:
‘import site’ failed; use -v for traceback

And whenever I open the software this window opens, the software runs but if I close that window the program closes.

You need to select some vertice for extrude to work. In edit mode, selected vertice are yellow, and unselected are pink.
You can select them by hand by right click (and holding shift for multiple selection), using box selection (Bkey), circle selection (Bkey twice), or using the Select/Unselect all toggle (Akey).

That’s a warning related to Python, unrelevant in this situation

This is the console window, it need to stay open (in Windows at least) for Blender to run. It’s used to display error messages and debug information.
