Error messages(?) on starting Blender

I installed Blender 2.42 on Windows XP, and when I start it, I get the following message in the console window. I am wondering if I have not installed some component that I should have. Here is the message:

“Compiled with Python version 2.4.
‘import site’ failed; use -v for traceback
Checking for installed Python… No installed Python found.
Only built-in modules are available. Some scripts may not run.
Continuing happily.”

I dont know if you have python2.4 installed already on your system…if not, go to …

Indeed. I had Python 2.5, and assumed that would be sufficient. Apparently not - I had to install Python-2.4.
