error while trying to change language in linux

Hi, I’m trying to change language, and I’m having some trouble

I’m running blender 64 bits in kubuntu 8.04
first, the language list was empty, so I changed the fonts path to /usr/share/fonts/X11

now I can see the language list, but when I try to change to any language different of english (I tried every one) a message error appears on console:

could not change language to es_ES nor es_ES.UTF-8

the language in the interface doesn’t change at all when I toggle the Tooltips, Buttons and Toolbox buttons on

could you bring me some help?
