Error with AI import script

Hi, every time I try and use the ai import script I get the following error:

Compiled with Python version 2.5.2.
Checking for installed Python… got it!
Traceback (most recent call last):
File “<string>”, line 82, in <module>
File “C:\Program Files\Blender Foundation\Blender.blender\scripts\bpymodules
paths_ai2obj.py”, line 9
SyntaxError: Non-ASCII character ‘\xe9’ in file C:\Program Files\Blender Foundat
ion\Blender.blender\scripts\bpymodules\paths_ai2obj.py on line 10, but no encod
ing declared; see http://www.python.org/peps/pep-0263.html for details

It’s not even giving me the option to load a file it just comes up with an error as soon as I click it in Blender.

Thanks

Try replacing the first line of that file with “# -- coding: utf-8 --” . Also consider reporting this issue at the bug tracker (http://projects.blender.org/) so the developers can check it out and fix it.

Curious, in Blender 2.47, my script already begins by :

 # -*- <i>coding</i>: <i>latin1</i> -*-

jms, Whoops. Right. It seems burns’ version is missing encoding altogether for some odd reason.

Open your AI file in Illustrator and Save As… SVG.

The SVG import seems to work (mostly).

The AI import works (better than in other free softs) if the restrictions are respected :

Could someone post their file so that I can try it?

Why don’t you try with the Illustrator’s examples ?
