Today we celebrate the passing, in 1791, of Europe’s first, and world’s second, constitution. Our painter Jan Matejko captured the moment after the constitution was passed to the joy of many. Short-lived as it was, Poland made history then. This Matejko’s painting, too, is a sort of stock image.
