Eve3000 - BWC 2007

Here’s my entry for the Blender World Cup this year.

Eve3000 is a robot in the distant future who discovers the tree of knowledge of good and evil. She is reaching for the fruit in the hope that it will give her that which separates her from her creators - a soul. Kind of like Pinocchio, but better looking

Thanks for looking

Edit: Attached is a smaller version.

Not bad, 3 and a half stars. The human(droid) anatomy doesn’t quite gel.

Nice painted feel! This turned out really good! I really like the fact that you’ve painted the textures yourself.

The leaves are beautiful! Very impressive there.

The grass could do with a bit more subdivision, because there are some obvious jagged bends in there. The pose of the robot is unflattering, i think a slightly more iconic pose would be more appropriate, reaching overhead. Ive also noticed that your image is a little smaller than the rules specify, although i’m sure no-one will mind.

I like this alot, its differnt from the others, the painted look gives it a very femenine feel.

Good, but the pose looks out of whack to me.
It looks like if she just took a step forward and stood up straight it would be much easier to reach the apple.
Tethink the pose (go for a sort of old painting style – more graceful) and you’ll have a pretty nice render IMO.

The blue eyes framed by the blue sky is a very nice touch!

Thanks everyone, it’s nice to have some feedback.

TheAnimal: I had made the grass a bit jagged in places, because that is how it is painted sometimes, when the really long blades fall over on themselves at an angle. I didn’t realize it looked unrealistic to that extent.

I had a lot of trouble posing the robot, because the rig I made wasn’t too good. I had made it before finishing the modeling because I had trouble trying to put together the “mechanics” of her body. Also, a human mesh is easier to move because it deforms naturally, with her, as her joints and skin were all supposed to be metal or plastic, (so couldn’t deform), it was difficult (for me) having made the model to put her into a position which worked. The pose that I have chosen was supposed to be a little uncomfortable, because I saw her as having climbed a hill to reach the tree, I tried to make her a little unbalanced, as if still in motion… but maybe I did too much there

M.H.P.E: Thanks, I like the idea of the painted style as a texture too, and have been inspired by other 3d artists who do the same. I will continue to use it and see how it goes for the next piece.

This has been my first big serious work in Blender, so even though it is not perfect, I am quite happy with the way it has turned out. I work making graphics for Pocket PC games, so it I am used to a much smaller scale (usually 30x30 pixels, or 240x320 for full screens ;)). Keep the comments and crits coming, it is very helpful. I will be looking at this again in about a month (I need a break from her!), and will try and improve it then.

Interesting finish. I know that you learned a lot during this project though I feel you can learn more. Your work will just keep getting better if you stay on this track.

Good job.
