EX-Newbie in Blender>>>Futuristic Town.Ask advices Final render at the page 4!!!!.

Hi everybody,
I am working on a 3D town.
Paris in the future.
This is destinate to be animated, with motion camera.
I post here, all the steps to the actual picture (no finished yet).
Sooo…
I am a newbee in 3D.
This is my first job in Blender.
But i want my picture rocks !!
So give me some advice !
Thxx !
Hero.

first test of modelling without array modifier for the main building (most imprtant one) in the center of my picture.(show on the latest pic)

Ok, this is the final shot (actualy).

Nice work for a newbie.

If the last picture was the final render:
The city does not really look very big, neither futuristic with that less buildings.
Try to use the array modifier again to duplicate the buildings and make a bigger town. You can bake the AO or use the “Negative Lamps” technique to fake the illumation.

You don’t really are newbie I think:

  • You use the array modifier
  • You can map textures onto surfaces(UV mapping)
  • You can model
  • You can use AO(not really a non-newbie tool, but still it means you have learned)

You maybe are new on the forum, but not new to Blender 3D. Or you have learned a lot already.

General Tips:

  • Add more buildings(you were probable already going to do that).
  • Bake the lights(use the multiple UV’s tool in the Edit Tab, commonly the default UVlayer is called UVTex)
  • Animate a realistic camera move, I commonly use Bezier as Interpolation Mode but sometimes you’ll need Linear(Constant is not recommended for fly-troughs)

PS: If I’m doing the wrong stuff, point me on those parts.

looks good…
say whats the vert (vertices if you don’t know what i mean) count of the whole thing??
keep it up!

You make the UV maps yourself? Not bad for a beginner then. Although I don’t think it looks futuristic.
If you want to model Paris… good luck. Paris, even downtown, is huge. But a beautiful place nonetheless nostalgia
Anyway, keep in mind that even in the future some historical buildings (like the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, the Arc de Triomph etc.) will most likely still be present.

First, thanks for all of your repply !!!

I am very happy to read, good, and very constructive/critical comment !!
It’s a little late here (3H19 of the morning) soo i don’t directly repply and analyse all of your comment.
But, for resume, all the criticts are really good and logical.
Right for the size of the building, i’ll do some bigger one !!
You give me some crazy idea of what i can do as more “futuristic” building !
Right too for the light and other technical stuff i don’t really understand yet.

For the fact i am a newbie, it’s reeeaaallly true !!
I lurn alot about of 3D concept, but only the concept.
Cause i really think about 3D about lonnng time ago, but only thinking.
I’v use a little 3Ds max for a short movie called “Marotte” (about twoo or three days) three years ago.
And i work about one mouth and half on a character model in Maya and try to make a stylish car about a hand made drawed model.

In this time i only used to lurn how polygons worksand try to lurn a little about skinning and IK…
But i didn’t really have enought time to experiment.

Recently i’v directed twoo little short with a little 3D all made in blender but i wasn’t on the modelling, just for animation only.
(i am a traditional 2D cartoonist in fact)
These twoo last shoot was made in and with blender 3D !

http://www.design-hero.com/html/movies/mudflow.html
(look after the 3D car, it’s made in blender :D).

With these twoo experiment i was reallly impressive by this extrodinary program called Blender and the fabulous power of 3D !
Soo i had made alot of fake 3D in after effect.

http://www.design-hero.com/html/movies/fogielweb05.html

Now, it’s about twoo weeks i’v “really” start Blender and 3D stuff.
I asking help to my friend Ronan Zeegers, a really good and motivate Blender’s user !!

And i know some Maya and max user for asking them some advice about 3D concept.

Soooo…
This is for the resume of my “neebiest” 3D’s life !!

For the rest i am really happy to discovered a very cool and good forum with soo mutch of very good Blender’s users !!!

you make the UV maps yourself? Not bad for a beginner then.
Yeah ! It was really hard for undersdunding the concept of UV.
I used really basic 3D model for have easy UV map coz’ it’s look hard to do.
I use the Unwrap and Perspective view to make the UV.
But i don’t really know if it exist better technique.
I understoud if i had more complicate model, this technique will become very bad…
Soo, if somebody knows other technique…
Welcome !

Anyway, keep in mind that even in the future some historical buildings (like the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre, the Arc de Triomph etc.) will most likely still be present.
Yeah, i’v already use a free model of Eiffel Tower, i’ll try to put some other historic place, ore make the eifel tower more evident.
(with some better lighting on the tower for exemple).

Soo…
I go to bed right know…
It’s 4h08 of the morning know…
Lol

Mutch thanks again !
I’ll going deeper in my background tomorrow !
Happy to read you again !

Let’s RocK !

Oki !

I am beggenig the sky and background texturing.
I have already made a short test with a mapped “sphérical texture” on my world.
I it was a really bad result…
I looking after a tutorilal or some help to know how i can map an good sky.
I know it’s possible to do it on a hemisphere …
But i don’t know the technique to use.
It’s the same for the way i must work to do the texturing…

Soo…
Hehehehehehellllp !

Thanks again,
Hero.

do a search in the game engine section for user Dim and subject skybox. He’s uses terragen and walks through the steps of getting it to a hemisphere.

http://www.design-hero.com/blog/images/wip/bat3D13.jpg

I am starting the sky box !
Thanks for help !
Let’s RocKcK:ba: !!!

You can also use AngMap in the world settings to fake a spherical skybox(settings to Real).

Mmmm…
I have made a night texture because i didnt’ find one on the web…
But the résult is crappy…
(no more resolution…)
The stars are sooo big and they look fake…

What can i do ?
any suggestions ?

Thx.

Get a digicam and go out at night to shoot some pictures of a night sky. But consider this: In a city you normaly can’t see much stars. The artificial lights of the city are stronger. (have a look at this link:http://www.perthperth.com/images/city_night.jpg, no stars there)

Why is the Eiffel Tower in there if it’s a futuristic city?

“Paris in the future”

I like this. The only thing I can think of is that your ambient occlusion is too bright and there aren’t enough city lights to make up for it. I like the actual design and setup of the city, though.

You have absoluty right ZBeeblebrox !
I am inspired by your photography !!
Thanks soo mutch !

Here the test :

It’s soon to be finish i think…

Yeah absoluty right !
I going to put a darker and réalistic sky + more lighting in the town.

Sweet. Looking better already. Some garish neon signs might enhance the futuristic look, too, depending on what you’re going for.

It’s looking really great - I must admit I doubt your professed noobieness ;). One thing is that you seem to have forgotten the Seine. Maybe I’m just remembering wrong, but doesn’t the Eiffel Tower lie pretty close to the south bank?

:RocknRoll: Yeah man lol !

It’s make me smile, caus’ nobody believe me about i am a newbie…

Itttt’ss Reeeeeaallyy truuee !!!
But my “bedroom neiburgs” he’s a very very good teacher, he know praticly everything i need.
Soo, now, i am going to be not a newbie lol.
Caus’ it’s about twoo weeks i have start in blender i’l becoming an non-newbie in blender.

Sooo, i didn’t have time to continue the town today…
Soo mutch administratives stuff to do…

:frowning:
