Not sure if someone asked this before, but how will 2.40 treat the meshes, and rigs from previous versions of Blender? Since the Animation system sounds like it’s getting lots of new features, and changing the way someone rigs it to do animation. I ask this, because I don’t want to learn about the current animation system. Then have it go all snafu on me after I install 2.40 when it comes out. :o
Sometimes, I even think I should wait until the new version comes out to start learning, but the desire to create is getting to be too much.
Which leads me to another question. Can you remove a rig, and create/installl a new one from an existing mesh?
you’ll be able to load the scenes made with previous blender versions into 2.40. the file format is compatible with older AND newer versions. so rigs and meshes made with 2.37 will still work in 2.40, and you’ll be able to apply the new tools and use the new functionality. don’t hesitate, start learning, it will pay off regardless of the changes made until 2.40 comes out.
Alright. Cool. Now, it’s just a matter of actually setting aside some time to do some reading of online manuals, and tutorials… There’s so much, it’s intimidating. So much so that I keep having great ideas, but when I sit down to read up on how to do them… I feel overhwhelmed, and draw a blank.
The new animation/armature system is really just an upgrade to the current one. So it will do everything the current does (only better).
The .blend files you save using 2.40 will not be useable by older versions of Blender. This was a thing of concern for Ton and the development team, since from the beginning Ton wanted the .blend files to have version-transparency. However, the decision was (rightly) made to implement the necessary changes (upgrades). You can still load and use old .blend files though.
