Expanded logic brick functionality

This is a hypothetical, and I am mostly curious about how difficult this would be to implement vs how much use it would actually allow for.

So here’s the idea. What if you could use a variable as a value in a logic brick, instead of having to use hardcoded values.

Example:
on a motion actuator, in addition to being able to define number values for x, y, or z movement, you can also write in the name of a variable, which would cause the movement of the object to use the variable’s value instead. It would of course update in real time, so if you changed the variable during the game, the speed of the object would change accordingly.

In order to be completely effective, this functionality would have to exist on all numerical entry boxed in the logic brick system. I’m sure it would require quite a bit of recoding, but the increase of logic brick flexibility would be enormous.

Thoughts?

Python scripting allows these functions.

Yes but not everyone knows how to program in python or wants to learn

It’s a good idea overall to expand the logic brick functionality, I think. This feature (using variables to set values in actuators or possibly sensors) would most likely come in the form of nodal logic once it gets implemented.

Well I feel this is partly invalid. If you don’t want to learn to program you’re essentially saying that you want others to learn and program the features for you. We should all be interested in learning new things, because it drives us as a people

I agree with agoose
the logic bricks are for basic behavior

If you need complex behavior as you request, you should use Python.
The problem with complex logic bricks is, it increases complexity and adds more feature requests.
