Extrude along Local axis

I made an inset and want to extrude it along its local axis I’m trying to extrude the tip of this kettle,I have turned on from the transformation orientation local axis.I tried on the Y and Z, and both go incorrect direction. I’m trying to get it along the axis as shown in the example.

Thank you.

you must change your orientation setup like this

I guess he doesn’t have any face here, otherwise it would extrude along the face normal by default. As explained by someone here (don’t remember who) the quickest way to do it is to fill the edge loop selection with a face and use it temporarily to extrude along its face.

Hey MoonBoots!

What do you mean by no face? here’s another screenshot to help.

oh ok my bad I didn’t understand correctly. So actually you don’t try to extrude neither along the face normal, nor the local axis but along the teapot spout? In that case you need to select a face that is facing it or perpendicular to it and align the view to the face, then select the Transform Orientation to View, and use the widget to move your extrusion along

the bad fact is that your are in individual origin and not in medium point so it makes a bad normal calculation… try what i ve drawn in red on my first attached picture.

all the ways to manage your transforms are here.

Thanks very much for your help Skaux
