extruding over time

I am trying to extrude a cube over time as an animation. The extruded cube will be layered over text and must follow the shape of the text over time. I am not trying to model the text. As an example I would like the white inner section of the attached CNN logo to snake it’s way through the red letters. I first shaped the cube so that it appears as a thin line over text in the upper corner of the C. I am trying to animate the cube so that it will snake it’s way around the logo, following the shape and end on the right side N. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would use curves for this, your animated path could be a bezier and then a squared curve as bevel…
so load it as bevel object then animate bevel factor; increase ‘resolution’ and disable ‘smooth’ under ‘active spline’
