Extruding Region with 2 Faces @ 90 degrees

Hi there, I’m new to blender and have been following Johnathan Ross’s video tutorials. I started attempting to make my own models and have now hit a problem.

I have two faces which are at 90 degrees to each other but when I attempt to extrude them both together the line along which it lets me extrude is not an average of the face normals, I’ve attached a JPG. Basically I’m thinking that the line should be facing sort of towards the camera, instead its perpendicular to the view meaning I can’t extrude in the same way that I have the other two corners on the other side of the model.

Can anyone suggest how I might get the line to run out from the two faces, on the average of the two face normals?

Thanks,
Andy

Select the faces, E to extrude (select Region), then hit Esc to get rid of the line. Use the appropriate axis of the manipulator widget (Hand icon in the header) in translate mode, Normal orientation to drag the extruded faces out along the averaged normal.

Hotkeys for the above:
Ctrl-Space to turn on manipulator widget, choose Translate.
Alt-Space to select orientation

Thanks CD38, thats done the trick!
