Extrusion and script

Hi all,

I have the following mesh:

I would like to extrude part of this mesh but in a way that can be easily implemented in a python script for blender then.

Right now, i’m selecting roughly some faces:

Then extrude and select the local x-axis:

And i get the result i want:

I dont know much about Blender but I dont find this way of extruding rly nice cause I’m selecting rly roughly the edges, and I dont know how I’ll be able to do that in a script then.
Is there anyway, instead of selecting all these edges, to define a plane cutting the mesh and extruding from there ? I dont know if it’s clear.
Anyway, if u have any idea to extrude more properly in a way that can be easier to script then, it could be helpful.
Thx,

Hi, :slightly_smiling_face:

IMHO, at first glance, I find this mesh not very “readable” … maybe we should start by cleaning it.

  • The mesh is so confusing that I don’t know if you’re in edit mode (Vertex select) ??

instead of selecting all these edges, to define a plane cutting the mesh and extruding from there ?

Of course, you have several “manual” options:

  • the Knife tool that will cut your geometry.
    • in Edit mode > K key then Z key (to also cut the back sides)
    • you trace your cut and validate with the Space key.

if u have any idea to extrude more properly in a way that can be easier to script then

IMO A script won’t work a miracle.
What do you actually want to “automate”?

Here, I think your problem is more about the complexity of your mesh…
