Nice. Cool bread texture
could use some focal blur + vignette. oh and the funny tomato juice stuff in that glass bowl type thing is quite strange… nice modeling though!
Thank you, gregzaal. Blur - maybe. And that is not a tomato juice - it’s a sauce))
It looks pretty realistic, and you’ve got amazing care for detail.
Did you make it from a reference photo? How long did it take to render?
The realistic impression is spoiled only by vegetable. The cucumbers look a bit overexposed and quite too glossy. And the tomatoes look weird, even those that are being sauce; they’d need subsurface scattering, too bad yafaray doesn’t support it yet.
If I’m not mistaken, that’s a zucchini squash, not a cucumber, right? I think it looks fine as a zucchini, and they do have a glossy look to them when cleaned. Something is a bit odd about the whole tomato, I think maybe a bit more varying in color and detail on the stem leaves would help. It could be the water that’s bothering me.
Overall, a very nice display of everyday things. The textures are really well done!
Very nice render and modelling. One criticism is the the tomato on the plate is toooo big.
wow that’s really good, however the sauce is pulling down the whole impression, it simply looks faked… and a bump map wouldn’t hurt the bread… apart from that, awesome!
Agreed:
- Sauce looks too fake
- Cucumber (definitly a cucumber, but maybe its called a zucchini squash in your country) overexposed
- Tomato is too big and too flat on the cut side
Other than those, I think its great… with some vignette
Yeah, the tomato is a bit unrealistic. The size is absoluely ok, sometimes i buy even larger tomatoes))
Thank you for your critics!
really? a tomato bigger than a slice of bread? maybe its my urban-ness…
gregzaal, we have this bread in stores and it’s called “Pushkarevski” )) It’s size is nearly 8*8 cm
Its a nice scene! At the moment two things are standing out to me a little though. Composition, and the texturing on the tomatoes and the sauce. First with the composition: Every piece of work needs a focal point. Usually this focal point is where the darkest dark contrasts with the lightest light, or the object that contrasts most with the rest of the scene. At the moment there are so many contrasting objects, the eye doesn’t have any path to follow or place to lay its focus.
Secondly I think the sauce and the tomatoes could do with some SSS. I don’t know if yafray supports Sub-Surface Scattering, but if it does, SWITCH IT ON! At the moment the tomatoes have the right shape and texture, but not the right light interaction. Tomatoes have light enter and bounce back out of the surface, but I’m sure you know what SSS is. Try this on the sauce as well, at the moment they look plastic.
Other than that, really nice! With a bit of work, you could have a very nice piece!
Sixthlaw, there is no SSS in yafaray at the moment, but they are working on it. So, you are absolutely write, but i can’t fix the problem And thank you for explaining the focal points
you sure? I think i saw it in a yafa ray demo video somewhere. You could make the watery parts transparent though
Not sure if Yafaray has AO options, but the scene definitely needs more tight shadows on the edges between the counter and the objects, particularly the cloth and the cutting board. Nice job though!
agreed, AO would be good… and i just noticed a bit of caustics on the right of the tomato… as far as i know, tomatoes are not that reflective
