f12 doesnt bring up the quick render preview

Hi

I’m having this problem… no idea how and when it happened. its only (not) happening on the on one specific scene. If I press F12, it does say at the top that blender is rendering together with the leading bar, but the render window never appears. However, on the compositing view, I can see the render on the default bottom left position.

Any ideas?

it is set to render in the image editor, which in the composite layout is the lower left window. Sometimes people set it to render in a new window.
