I’m new to blender 2.93 and I started off by trying to model an anime style head via meshing. I’ve gotten pretty far, eyes and a nose but I’ve run into an issue where I cant seem to use fill or bridge loop without crisscrossing. I’ve done “A” then “merge by distance” to try and remove duplicates/doubles. I’ve renormalized the faces so that they’re all red facing outwards and blue on the outside with the eye cavities and mouth cavity. It doesn’t seem to change it. When they cross they don’t cross at the middle but at the upper part (I’m trying to connect the nose and upper lip). It essentially makes 2 triangles. What am I doing wrong and how can I fix this?
Hi, first of all, a picture (screenshot) would help much more.
Normals should show outside, so blue outside and red inside.
Check the number of vertices on both sides, if they are not even, you get triangles. Or play around with the Twist.
I couldn’t upload a photo when I made the initial post but I just added it into the original post. Im working completely on a mirror, I don’t know how that affects the crisscrossing.
You need to turn on Clipping in your Mirror Modifier, which will stop the cross-over and snap the center edges together. I suppose that the selection you have was just to display what the problem was, but make sure to never select the center vertices when modeling or you will get this effect…in essence, the Right Side and also the left side are both trying to mirror on the X-axis…I also find it better to model from the outside towards the center where possible and let the clipping and merge take care of the center.
