Fade from/to pitch black?

I’m a “noob”
I’ve created my first blender animation
which is simply a lamp that moves across my scene
the lamp starts out with 0 energy and ramps up
The world has no environment lighting or indirect lighting
I only use one material and it’s Emit is zero.

So why can I see the outline and shadow of my objects when it should be pitch black?

You’re using blender internal, not cycles, right?

BI has specular values in the material settings. Spec gives highlights to your objects, depending on the location of the light source.

it goes by to fast for me to see much of anything…
looks like there is a plane behind the logo that is getting a shadow cast on it.

Your world is black or x off ? it should be black

Thanks everyone.
I am using the internal renderer. (I’ve now looked into cycles… will definitely have to take a look… will probably lead to me upgrading my graphics card) I was under the impression that cycles was the simulation engine or something… now I know otherwise!
Problem solved by changing the horizon and zenith color of the world to black.
(turning off / down the mirror effect of my material also solved it).

Ed. 3 seconds goes by quicker than I thought it would
