Good result.
Can you tell us how you did this?
I think you used AO , as we can notice the noise on the pic.But did you use any thing else?
I’d like also to know how much did it take to render? and if you compared the result with YAFRAY GI system, (both the look and the duration of render process).
thanks for sharing this experiment.
Oh yeah ,I like to say that the scene is also very nice.
Nice scene though the technique I would’ve seen as new to the blender community hasn’t seen before. Nice try.
Why not try an arealight in the window and make the squaresize 100 and scaled with ray shadows on for the softest possible shadows you can get from it. (your scene may have to be a decent scale)

You’re gonna have to reword that, it doesn’t make sense…
Personally, I don’t think it matters at all what method it looks like you used, what matters is how good the final result is.
Whoops, I meant the blender community has probably seen that technique used before.
Sometimes I accidently mess up my grammer, that’s why sometimes I rush to edit my posts to iron out mistakes.
hi everyone,
first of all I have to say that the scene is not mine but I just got it in elysiun. It was for a yafray test render.
I don’t rememember how much time it took to render but I’m pretty sure it took about 5 minutes. Yes just five minute (it is only 800x600).
I put 2 hemi light above and at the bottom of the room (distant from the room) with an intensity of 0.2.
I already put 4 area lights at the 4 windows and 1 big spot light for the shadows cast by the sun.
Ah, also the area lights have shadows on with 3 sample and noise and dither on.
All the lights have small intensity and a good illumination is obtained by increasing tha amuont og ambient intensity.
How can I put the shene online? just to share the knowledge
I hope it is not a crime to put this scene as I already downloaded it from a forum.
anyway…
Well… its about worth the 5 minutes render. The colors are a little washed out, and shadows are gray instead of black.

another try.
I changed a little the light and AO setting. It took me about 10 minutes to render.
It is not like GI but I think it is not so bad.
C & C welcome
bye

GI is already implemented in Blender, it’s a geometrical solver rather than a real raytracer, but the results are good and the rendering speed is high.
Take a look at my test here, I’m using the same scene, mine is a little more “Blenderish” (I used suzannes rather than teapots, those ones looked a little too “3d sudio max”-ed :-P)
Cannot say if You’ve used AO or Area Lamps but both aren’t a good solution to fake GI in indoor scenes
