I was playing true crime today when I noticed how they faked their reflections, they texture the windows of the cars with the in-game images that appear above the car your driving.
It’s not accurate because you can see the car infront of you reflected on the rear windshield but it looks very convincing…
fake reflections are possible with blender publisher, but not to that extent =(
model your object, then duplicate it… fatten(alt+s) the duplciate so its a tiny biut bigger, add a uv texture in face mode and click the little orange ball(caption reads “use image as reflection map”)… choose ADD for all the faces and lower the vert colors to a darker gray for less visiblity
i have a theory though for car reflections… just have one generic/blurred alpha texture of a car, and control its uv coordinates on different objects with python
like if a ray touches the car in front of you, the uv coordinates of the alpha reflection will match the position of the ray colission, making it seem like your car is reflection off the one in front… i dunno, everything seems possible until id actually sit down and try it =) but mix this texhnique with a regular fake reflection on the car in front and it could look good
I saw a reflection setup i was impressed by in a demo called “YellowCake UFO”, I found it on Doc Holiday’s (I think) site but it seemed like there was a different author. Sorry I can’t be of more help but I’m sure you can find the demo.
