fantasy warrior

I’ve been working on this character for quite some time, and am finally able to say that she’s done! It was my first humanoid character, so the whole process was a great learning experience. I know that there are still many flaws (I accidentally didn’t notice a couple of things before rendering, maybe you can find them), but eventually, you need to move on to the next project, right? As the title indicates, I was going for an alien/ fantasy character that was more lizard-like, and I wanted to combine technology with a more tribal look. Anyhow, here is my final render, I am done, but any feedback at all would be greatly appreciated so that I can improve on future projects.

I should also mention that the character is very loosely based off of the lego bionicle character Kiina: http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20090708074256/bionicle/images/0/07/Kiina.jpg

It is all blender, except the sky, which is stock from: http://prints-of-stock.deviantart.com/gallery/30645656#/d3i2zs3

Interesting character. I can`t say much about it.
It looks nice.
I think the environment though needs a bit more work. Add some displacement and bump.

thanks, the rock she’s standing on is actually almost pure displacement, but I definitely agree that it maybe should have had a higher factor, or detail level… and the lighting doesn’t do much to highlight the shadows. I admit to rushing the background though, after finishing the character I wanted to see a finished result as quickly as possible. That’s probably not the best thing to do, but I didn’t think it needed to be too complecated.

I added some hair once I saw the cycles strand render topic:
worse hair, normal eyes: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/816136s/Kiina3D/kiinahair.png
fixed hair, more alien eyes: http://www.brickshelf.com/gallery/816136s/Kiina3D/kiinaeyeshair.png

and does anyone know how to make the hair strands be less blocky? it would definitely look better that way.

My god man she is a great character…lots of detail…but you gotta work on some better poses and environments or at least camera setup to give us more eye candy. The render above is like watching football from the goodyear blimp. I hope that your already working on some more renders. I look forward to seeing more,

Happy Blending:)

I’m tending to agree with Derek overall. Could use some more dynamic poses and camera positioning. Really like the character as a finished product, it’s just the presentation that’s sorta bland. I think the rock looks rather good, too.

A little design tip, though: make your character (or whatever you’re presenting) the most contrasty part of the image (relatively). In this particular image, I find myself straying out to the clouds in the background.

Pretty cool character you’ve got goin’ there. I’d also like to see more renders.

I really like the look of the scales. Repose her and lose the helmet and she’ll look really good. I really hope you do more renders.

Looks good,
the armor reminds me of bionicles (the LEGO toy).

Thanks a lot guys.

I feel the same about the picture, and sadly it seems to be the same problem with most of my artwork. The problem is, I really don’t know how to get a dynamic (or even interesting) looking picture. If anyone has any good advice (or can link me to someone who does) it would be greatly appreciated.

lol, you’re right, nice catch. I mentioned that in the first post.

well sir you have hit the nail on the head…creating a interesting and creative scene is really where you capture the viewers:P Something like the scene in Sintel where she is climbing a rock mountain in the rain would be cool…you wouldnt have to do the rain:)…but the scene setup could be very simalar with your characters spear axe using it to balance her on her journey up the mountain and the camera angle:) That would make the character the main object in the render and maybe even get a little DOF in there. Good luck man you can do it…post another shot at it…I’ll look forward to it:P

Happy Blending!

Hmmm, I guess that this is a organic version of Kiina

It’s Kina! ^^ nice job.

very nice job
