Fascism on CGSOCIETY.ORG

Weilynn, if you are serious, I have very bad news for you…
You wrote here like a last of peasants from deep heart of American Kentucky…Every literate human know, that if you want to turn on beauty of metalic materials, you must have homogeneous , not agressive background…no details, no glosses…this is reason for velvet background in every goldsmith or jewelry …dark velvet backround…Try sometime visit your capitol city…
Compress of JPEG - this is automatical compress of this domain…this images was compressed from my .PNG originals, thats all…
And somthing for the end…WHAT DO YOU KNOW ABOUT SLAVIC MYTHOLOGY, BECAUSE I KNOW ABOUT CELTIC MYTHOLOGY A LOT OF INTERESTING…But this is not your mistake, because today are typical for West European Cultures citizens not interest for East European Cultures and History…

namekuseijin, ghostly606: Thans for your support, Its hard to have opposite opinion here, like usually…
On second side, I dont wanna mixed my design concepts with concept or character art together…If you want to be a good industrial designer, you must be handy painter, sculptor , technologist, manager…this is my job…But I like concept art , character art to , and sculpting is my hobby…and If you are great designer, you cant be a bad sculptor…Is possible to lower craft quality of graphic, but we are talking not about JPEG compression or AA settings, but about art and sculpture…and many people here are not understand it

Can I suggest an experiment on your part, if you haven’t already tried it post your work on their focused critique threads and see what kind of comments you can get to make it better.

I quite like…your artwork, although…I…honestly don’t have…much of a clue what you’re ranting about…

Hangar,

I know where you’re coming from… CGSociety can be a bit odd in their assessment of work for their gallery/forum. They are looking for some very specific things in the works that are posted (which they describe quite clearly btw)… and, they get a LOT of work posted that all needs review. So… if at a glance your work does not tick all the boxes, it doesn’t get in.

As an example, I got exactly the same response (post it in the WIP forum, and repost once it’s finished), for the “Sentry” piece, which made it into the gallery here, and onto Blendernation. http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthread.php?p=1719712

In the case of my work, I completely understand where they came from. I have a lot of untextured objects in the scene, and they like texturing a lot. I chose not to in this piece… but then here’s the thing… who is my audience? I don’t make the work to advertise myself as a CG artist, I make it as an artist, and exhibit my work in the real world. There’s very different criteria for the two. And as a consequence, it’s also not that important for me to get my work featured on that website.

About your images… if I compare them to the works on CGSociety I see similar things… It’s just not the type of CG they like. And yes, you could really improve your lighting/composition/modelling. For instance in the second image there’s mostly black and white… and very little in between. An overblown image like that is in their view badly lit. Even though something may be dark, they like to still see detail in there. It’s the same issue in the first image… there’s no clear light source, everything is lit rather evenly. They like to see more of a “choice” here, more definition.

Also, the topology can really be improved in your model. Especially around the mouth, the lips just don’t work that well.

Your texturing could be improved a lot if you made it work/do more with the actual shape of your model in stead of just being grungy detail… have them add shape/colour/contours. If you’re inspired by Giger, then you can look at his work for this as well… pretty much every detail in his work isn’t just dark/light/dirt. Almost everything is about “shape”.

The main question you may want to ask yourself is… is CGSociety the platform for you?

FWIW I too believe that the staff at cgtalk is mostly made up of pretentious snobs.

  1. I’ve heard complaints about plagiarism and artwork theft that they ignore because all they care about is selling more $300 “art” books.

  2. They treat non pros like garbage and ban users faster than any site I’ve seen.

  3. There are very few really cool mods there, but others just want to push their products/books. (I know of one in particular that got jobs this way and is working in the industry, and she’s a mediocre artist)

Do you think I want cgtalk to suck? no. I want it to succeed and bring us cool stuff every week. But at the same time, these people don’t understand that the users they are turning away now, are going to be the pros of the future, and they wont’ do any interviews or "making of"s for them. Trust me, some people don’t forget.

It’s a shame because there are so many talented artists on the site, and even though I understand that they are a business and need to make money. They can try to be a bit friendly and take some notes from other sites where community comes first.

Anyways, I really miss some of the people over there but I’m not going back there ever!

As a business, they chose to focus 100% on the studios and making sure they please them so they can sell their books at $300 each instead of helping the people.

This is a pretty small industry with a handful of really good studios, and you can’t keep playing games like this, sooner or later someone’s gonna stand up to them and expose them.

It happened with Activision, (see Respawn Entertainment) and to be honest, I much rather work for RE and get respect, instead of someone who’s gonna throw some money at me and treat me like a pig.

People remember!

Total irrelevant to you art I have to say that you should watch out what terms you are using. To me, as a German, Fascism is still a very tender topic. Especially when people just yell the word out to talk about something “bad” without knowing what it actually means. I suggest you have a good read through about what fascism is and why it is wrong to just go ahead and use it as “strong” word to insult others. And just for the heck of it, because first thing people did, was to associate Hitler, there is a fine line between national socialism and fascism that is worth knowing.

Sorry for that, but that just needed to get out. Very, very tender topic.

Anyway, I agree with other comments posted before, the art put up on a gallery is subject to the host of the gallery.

Dalai@ Like a German you know, of course, that fascism comming from Mussolini dictator mode like a ally contry with Germany…Hitler took name of his political establishment - national socialism, later nazism…and fascism was created from nazism model, but it was more unstable, because Mussolini wasnt charismatically and smart person, like Hitler…it is historical facts

windex@ I know, what do you talking about…Shame and blame…but its my fail, that I thought there s not so commerce…

Your art looks nice. It’s not my taste (too much post work), but it looks good. CGTalk is known to be a bit dickish about submisions at times, true. But to be honest… I get a feeling it might have been your choice of response that actually ended up getting you banned. I have no evidence to support it, and it is not to fight their case, but your posts in here are far more dickish and juvenile than anything I have ever heard about them. Please, seriously, don’t post anything written in a way that would infuriate you if it was written about you, you just end up looking horrible. And as a citizen of a nation caught between Germany and Russia (had Nazis from the south in WWII and Commies from the east in the Cold War, both right next door), stop the references to fascism, communism, etc. You clearly just mean “they are stupid pricks”. Show your art, ask people if they agree or disagree with CGTalk (CGSociety? I honestly can’t tell them apart). Don’t go Godwin on everybody, you just end up looking like what you scream about. And that’s coming from someone who actually has Tourette’s

Pipeline, I understand, but on second site,If I take name of my post : Stupid pricks on CGSOCIETY , I havent feedback like Fascism on CGSOCIETY…and between us, their s practices really recall some fascism ideas…Is important to people knowing about it

A) “Stupid pricks” would get the same response (people trying to make you calm down), with a bit less Godwinian annoyance. B) No, no they don’t. They don’t act like fascists, and people don’t really need a “warning” about them. They have a way about their site, their choice. It’s not fascism. It’s not even elitism, communism, imperialism, or any other regularly used -ism. Just say it as it is, they offended you and they seemed stuck up. You’re not really getting “feedback” here, either, just people telling you you’re overreacting. I would love to see more of your work, and would love for you to develop it. But honestly, your language and attitude is not making you look more interesting.

Calm down, and stick to the art. That’s what the forum is, I believe, most interested in. Let’s see if your art can stand on its own, without -isms as a sales pitch. I for one hope, and suspect, it can.
