Fashion Collection - Top Hats

After many weeks of research and building, I’ve finally finished my collection of top hat models. I have an interest in 19th century history, so this seemed like a good fit for my first entry onto the Blender Market.

I’ve noticed that there are plenty of modern and futuristic models on the market, but it’s difficult to find stuff from the past. I hope I can help fill in that gap a little starting with my Fashion Collection - Top Hats.

In the end, I made 40 different, historically accurate top hats and 10 novelty hats (also researched and modeled accurately). In order to take care of your top hat, I also included the necessary accessories like hat stands, bandbox style hat box, brush, and buffer to shine your hat. An opera hat, called a Gibus, is included with shape key to collapse it.

There are multiple materials with information about when each material was used and in what context. The materials use advanced Cycles shaders built on top of modified Chocofur shaders with special nodes for edge wear/grunge, color swatches, and dust.

Each hat includes the crown, brim, binding, sweatband, lining with moniker, band, and bow. Modifiers include subdivision surface, simple deform for brim curve, and lattice.

Depending on the success of this collection, I’d like to continue on with other types of hats like bowlers, fedoras, western, etc. Would love to hear what you guys think.

The hats look really amazing!
Too bad about the noise on these renders though!

Very very nice! my compliments! The description of Blender Market sounds interesting. Quite a journey. Also importend, those marvalous materials.

Thank you! I agree about the noise. When I realized I needed to render 50 hats, I decided to sacrifice some of the quality to hasten the release date. I may try to re-render the scenes, but I hope they don’t deter from the quality of the product.

Because this is my first attempt at selling assets, I’m open to suggestions on how to better market my packs going forward. I’ve explained in my documentation included that I wanted artists who purchase this pack not to worry about accuracy or extra work. I tried to make it entirely comprehensive and even give tips on when to use each material. I have a list of improvements I’d make in the future, but more feedback would be helpful.

Thanks apologue!

Here are a few of the materials I created for this collection:

Looks cool design. Hats have become an essential part of everyday wear. They make you look sharp, express your personality and protect you from the elements.

As with most artistic projects, appropriate pricing has been a concern. I’m grateful that the Blender community is so open and willing to share, not only the program itself but in many other cases like Blendswap.

I would, however, like to continue producing assets and collections like this one and can only do so if I bring in enough money to warrant the extensive research and work time. I hope that the quality of the set proves that. I know I would rather have collections like these just be free or very cheap, but I also don’t want to sabotage the market by undercutting other artists.

I did not come to the final cost arbitrarily or easily so I’d like some feedback on the pricing for the collection and if you all would consider it fair?
