faster previews?

here’s a question: is there a way to output the openGL preview to an avi file.

Here’s what I want it for: I do a lot of preview when I’m animating. I don’t need all the textures and hi-res, I just need to see the motion. My system isn’t fast enough for alt-a to work (effectively) in anything but wireframe. Right now the best I can do is render low-res w/o OSA and lower the subsurf resolution. The interface draws much faster than the renderer, is there a way to export it to a video clip?

Render menu, OpenGL Preview Animation. Very very useful.

I never saw that before!!! Fabulous!

this is the render menu on the info header (top of te screen usually)

it used to be shift+click on the render button (looks like the display buttons tab button) on the 3d window header

thanks wierdhat, that should save me many hours of test rendering in the future.

That is awesome! I too had no idea that this could be done. My processor isn’t exactly slow, but it isn’t fast enough either to use ALT+A to effectively time animations. This will be a HUGE timesaver! Thanks!
