Fastest i7 Machine for Blender

Seeing that I passed my A+ cert class sometime ago, I thought it was time I got off my lazy rump and build my own Machine. What I would like is everyone’s opinion on the Fastest i7 MoBo’s available. I’ve done some limited research and so far and this one looks pretty zippy with few complaints…

ASUS P6T WS PRO LGA 1366

Suggestions on video, cases and cooling would be nice too. So - Any input is welcomed.

Thanks in Advance!

Can’t really comment on motherboards, but if you’re building your computer for the first time, I might suggest that you buy a bigger case than you really need. This will give you more room to work in.

Also, I’d notice what mechanism your CPU heatsink uses to attach to the motherboard. Some are a huge pain, and very scary since a lot of pressure is needed. Sorry I can’t remember which type this is, other that as you push down on the corner pins, they rotate. Perhaps somebody else can help.

Wow - Not too many people building PCs I guess!!!

I always roll my own:)
you won’t go wrong with Asus
I’m using a P5-Q now and it rocks
don’t have any experience with the I7’s though
get fast RAM, it’s as important as the CPU
overclocking is easy with Asus

Dave

i build my own i7 920
he is fast enough , also there are some render process’s that take allot of time
i can just say / recommend 2 things about i7 and blender

  1. i will remind u that i7 come works with memory in multiple of 3
like DDR2 come must have 2 memory cards to work
i7 CPU architecture work on multiple of 3
i didn’t know that when i bout my PC ,and after a month i see problems
so i have to switch to a new memory set ,and add some money
  2. buy at least 6 GB ram
blender require allot of ram specially when baking water ,or yafaray photon mapping with allot of rays defined

also my video card is ATI radeon 4870 , so far so good working grate

bust luck with your new pc
