Just separate half of the the face (P in edit mode), then re-bake, and you have a normal map. Viola. Obviously needs a little cleaning…


To answer your question on keeping the texture map the same (mirrored) and doing another normal map, blender can allow you to make more than one uvmap. Keep the one you got for textures assigned to the texture. There should be a place in the material editor options to put the name of the UVmap. Then under the editing options, click New for UV texture (under the Mesh tab) and re map the uv for you normal mapping. Follow the tutorial given to you earlier and just be sure to assign the normal map texture the UV map you just made.
