Your mesh is way to dense. You really don’t need all those edges to define your shape at this stage. Save the edges for places you really need them, like fingernails.

Anyway, you’ve got a lot of work ahead to straighten out the loops. I’d suggest you start by deleting every other edge loop. Select an edge loop by Alt+RMB next to the edge (in edge select mode) and then x>>edge loop. Start with the vertical loops, then do the horizontal loops. Be ruthless (you’ll be surprised at how little of the shape you actually loose.)

Once you’ve gotten rid of the underbrush, you can probably see what needs to be done. Proper loops generally follow musculature. Cut the mesh in half, apply the mirror modifier, and begin.

There is a retopo tool that can help remake topology, I’m not all that familiar with it, but that’s what it’s designed to do. Check out the release notes in the wiki, there may also be a tutorial or a reference page by now.

If you want to do it by hand, don’t try to save vertices. If a vertex is in the wrong place, delete it and extrude new vertices where you need them.

hi thank you for the reply

im guessing you mean remove everyting that is not in edge loop?, the problem i have is im not sure exactly where some of the edge loops are spose to be i am not planning to animate this model but i would like to keep it as in option, the image i am useing this model in is going to have a fair amount of the torso exposed with a wrap of of cloth around the chest and waste, so i am wanting a fair amount of detail on the exposed area, however the image is going to be fairly dark a nightime setting. now you said not to use to many edge loops but i am not sure how to get the some what relistic look without a hugh amount of edges, i also keep hitting snags with haveing one vert with 5 edges attached and i dont know how to fix it. thank you for all the advise i really Appreciate it.

EDIT
i was thinking about what you said and i thout i sould post this see the above images are in object mode with draw wire inabled with sub surf on so here is a picture of the actuly mesh in edit mode

Well, it’s not as bad as I thought. Providing wires helps. Here’s some suggestions. Take them with a grain of salt: I’m doing this by eye, not on an actual mesh. Save a copy, or make a copy to experiment on.

The yellow and orange lines are edge loops I think you could do without. They are also edges that end in poles (the name for those vertices with five or more edges–sometimes also called stars.) The red dots are the four vertices of a new quad surrounding what used to be a pole. The blue lines are incomplete loops that should be complete.
