Ferrari F120A Engine

This will be a long one… I’m trying to model & animate the whole engine. And yes, by “whole” I mean every single nut and bit.
Looking forward to keep this page updated as the project comes along.

I’m starting from the crankshaft assembly:

Pistons and cylinders coming next. Not sure about timing but… wish me luck!

Did some progress this weekend! Got the pistons done! Pretty happy with the result, let me know what you think!

Ambitious, but looking good so far.
Do you have the technical drawings, or how do you manage to get the details right?

Looking nice!

If you really want this extra detail, don’t line up the gaps on any of the piston rings.

Unfortunately, I don’t have access to the original drawings. But I was lucky enough to find an official spare parts catalogue with lots of detailed schematics, and I’ve spent literally months amassing all the references I could find around the internet. Next I’ve done a hefty amount of calculations to best approximate the dimensions of all the different components. This is basically a massive reverse engineering process. I reckon it’s pretty ambitious but at least I’m pleased to say that everything seems to check out so far!

Thank you for the reply, looking forward what you can achieve here, will be a loooong ride!

Starting this week with an update:

All the pistons are now in place and fully rigged!

Quick crankcase update!

Posting an update after way too long.
I think I underestimated how complicated a Crankcase model could get.
But now I can say, it’s finally done. Now on with the next part (most probably cylinder heads)
